A disco ball is a piece of optics pretending to be a decoration. Hundreds of flat mirrors, each throwing its own separate beam, sweeping a room as the ball turns — and how good that looks comes down almost entirely to two numbers nobody gets asked for: facet size and ceiling height.
Buy from a size chart and you get whichever facet the factory happened to use. In a low-ceilinged bar a 25mm facet throws a handful of hard beams that clatter around the room; in a 400-capacity venue a 10mm facet produces a soft grey shimmer and nothing else. Same ball, opposite failure.
Why we exist
Almost every disappointing install we are asked to fix is one of three things, and none of them is the ball: the wrong facet size for the room, a motor rated at the ball’s weight rather than above it, or a floodlight where a pin spot should be. All three are what happens when a ball, a motor and a light are bought separately from three suppliers.
So we ask for the ceiling height and the room size before we quote, and we supply the kit matched. Where the diameter you want is wrong for your sightlines — a two-metre ball hung too low stops reading as a sphere at all — we say so. Minimum order is 12.
How we build
Real glass mirror on a rigid core as standard, because glass throws a cleaner beam and does not dull under a hot lamp, and because a polystyrene core flexes and drops facets. Plastic mirror wherever shatterproof is the actual requirement — school halls, outdoor stages, any low hang over a crowd — and we will steer you there rather than sell you glass that should not be above people.
Anything over about a metre is a suspended load rather than a decoration, so it is built on an engineered core and supplied with its weight and safe working load in writing. Your venue’s rigger will ask for both.
